Wethersfield swimmer Colton Mosley was voted as the Journal Star athlete of the week.
Mosley earned 37 percent of the 21,587 votes, beating out Deer Creek-Mackinaw girls basketball player Addison Swadinsky (30 percent). The full results are below.
Mosley, a senior, cleaned up at the Pekin/Galesburg dual meet on Friday, then at the Macomb Invite on Saturday. Mosley took top times in the 50 free (22.05) and 100 free (49.60) against Pekin and Galesburg. He then was first in 50 free at 21.75 and set a new PR in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:00.19 for second-place finish in the 14-team invite.

Staishaun Kelley, Peoria High boys basketball
Kelley helped the Lions start off the Big 12 Conference season with a victory, beating visiting Urbana, 74-67 this past Friday. The 6-foot senior guard led Peoria High (2-2, 1-0) with 23 points in the Lion’s Den. Kelley scored 16 in the first half on the strength of four 3-pointers, hitting five 3-pointers for the game. Peoria High heads on the road to face city rivals Peoria Notre Dame on Tuesday, then visits Richwoods on Friday.
Asa Smith, El Paso-Gridley boys basketball
Smith has helped El Paso-Gridley remain undefeated, including a pair of wins last week. He posted a double-double — 17 points and 12 rebounds — as the Titans (5-0) rallied to beat Pontiac, 69-56 last Tuesday. The 6-foot-3 senior guard hit a pair of 3-pointers during a 14-point run. Smith added six points and seven rebounds in Friday’s 72-11 blowout win over Heart of Illinois Conference visitor Fisher.

Georgia Duncan, Washington girls basketball
Duncan scored a game-high 23 points in Washington’s 62-46 win over Mid-Illini Conference host Limestone this past Friday. The 6-foot senior guard knocked down three 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds for the Panthers, who received votes in the season-opening Class 3A poll. In the process, the McKendree signee recorded her 1,000th career point. She then added 12 points in Saturday’s 49-28 win over Pekin.
Addison Swadinsky, Deer Creek-Mackinaw girls basketball
The 5-foot-7 junior recorded a triple-double in last Monday’s 54-24 win over Heart of Illinois Conference host Le Roy. Swadinsky scored 15 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out 11 assists and three blocks for the Chiefs. She also added 11 points against Olympia for Dee-Mack, which went 2-2 last week.

Gabe Blanch, Illinois Valley Central wrestling
Blanch made a clean sweep in Tuesday’s triangular meet with Knoxville, East Moline United Township and Monmouth United. The 145-pound senior picked up a pin over East Moline’s Billy Sanders in 3:14 and another fall in 1:12 against Ty Laffety of United along with a forfeit victory against Knoxville.
