Washington Ruritan Club honors young members

Washington Ruritan Club recently honored the four members of the Class of 2022 who were the club's Rising Seniors last school year. Honored were Claire Gerber, Melanie Hackney, Samuel Dine and Mallory Bennett.

Washington Ruritan Club celebrated its young members during a May ceremony.

Club members honored members of the Rising Seniors of the Class of 2022, and welcomed its Rising Seniors who will graduate in 2023.

During the gathering, members of the Class of 2022 related their experience working with the club during the past year. Area high school juniors are selected to join as regular members of Washington Ruritan Club.

Juniors from Alliance, Marlington and Louisville high schools are eligible, and those selected are assigned to a service committee. Upon graduation from high school, the students receive $1,200 scholarships they put toward their college education.

All rising seniors for 2022 were Marlington High School graduates. Claire Gerber received the Dwight Ickes Scholarship. She will attend Bowling Green State University to study flight technology and operations on the professional pilot track. Melanie Hackney was presented with the Don Krabill Scholarship. She will study interior design at Kent State University. Samuel Dine was awarded the Ruritan National Foundation Build Your Dollars scholarship. Dine will attend University of Cincinnati to study electrical engineering. Mallory Bennett received the Marion and Vera Rummell Scholarship. She plans to attend Ohio University to study mathematics through the Honors Program. Each graduate received a backpack with Ruritan insignia.

The four Rising Seniors for 2023 were introduced. Camyrn Mitchell was assigned to the Business and Professions Committee. Jessica Stewart and Abbi Davis were placed on the Citizenship and Patriotism Committee, and Kiersten Swope will be on the Public Service Committee. Mitchell will be a senior at Marlington High School; Stewart, Davis and Swope will be seniors at Louisville High School.

The Class of 2023 will be the fourth group of Washington Ruritan Rising Seniors.
