Highlights of Sept. 6 meeting of Washington Township trustees:

Department reports

Park – Rentals are winding down. Dealing with a few messy rentals, mowing and mulching the park grounds. The Port-a-Potty will be picked up the first week of October. Last rental will be Oct. 8.

Zoning – Three permits were issued in August. Answered several inquiries regarding various zoning questions. Two nuisance notices will be sent to a residents on South Union Avenue, one for unlicensed vehicles and one for maintenance.

Fire – Reported 35 runs in August, with 348 for the year coming into the meeting. August runs included 25 medical, one structure fire, two EMS incidents, one person in distress, one public assistance, one cover assignment, two cancelled en route and one wrong location. Upcoming department events include golf outing on Sept. 11; Louisville Parade on Sept. 18; Community Day at Marlington on Sept. 23; and Touch a Truck on Sept. 24. Scott Koehn resigned from the department, citing personal reasons. Engine 2 and Utility 6 have been repaired. The chief and assistant chief will be attending the Stark County chief’s meeting on Sept. 15. Trustees approved motion to reimburse the $44 to attend.

Road – Crack sealing done on Queensbury. Dealt with downed tree on Fox. Started second round of mowing.

Other action

∙ Comments from visitors included a Washington Hills resident inquiring about what can be done about all the truck and construction traffic going through the allotment. Resident said he’d like to see removable speed bumps placed on the roads.

∙ Marlington Local’s new superintendent, Dan Swisher, introduced himself to trustees, and said he hoped for greater communication with the townships. All agreed to give updates about various events and news in the future.

∙ Bills were paid totaling $30,387.84.

∙ New business included Wallace reminding trustees that the Local Government Distribution Fund’s five-year term will be up in 2023.

UPCOMING – Trustees next will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19.
