Highlights of Dec. 28 meeting of Washington Township trustees:

Department reports:

Park – Closed for winter.

Zoning – No report.

Fire – Service was performed on the fire bay doors, and new turn out gear was discussed.

Road – End of year report showed 360 tons of road salt was purchased, roads were cracked-sealed, 2½ miles of roads were paved for the year, and new culvert was installed on three roads.

Highlights of Jan. 2 regular meeting

Department reports:

Park – No report.

Zoning – Total zoning permits for the year totaled $3,163,350.

Fire – Officials reported 49 runs in December, with 532 total runs for the year. December runs included 43 medical, one accident, one assistance, two canceled en route and public service. Trustees and Fire Department plan a work session at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11.

Road – Snow and ice control, cutting edges and repairs to the lights on one of the road trucks.

UPCOMING – Trustees next will meet Jan. 16 at Township Hall.

Highlights of Jan. 2 organizational meeting

  • Trustees held an election of officers for 2023, and Merrit Boyce was elected board president for 2023, with Wayne Wallace as vice president. Meeting dates for 2023 will be the first and third Mondays of each month.

  • In other appointments, Craig Cobb was reappointed fire chief, and Don Morrow was reappointed assistant fire chief. Paul Mohr will be road superintendent, with Scott Zurbrugg as road crew. Travis Keller was reappointed park manager. Steve Lacher was reappointed zoning Inspector.

  • All employees received a pay increase for 2023. The employment policy was read, and trustees added Juneteenth as a holiday, which makes 11 paid holidays. Full time employees will pay 10% of their health insurance, and the township will pay their deductible.

  • In board appointments, Mike Renaldi was reappointed to the Zoning Board, and Mike Miller was reappointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Craig Cobb, Wade Main, Joe Main, Merrit Boyce and Jimmy Jones will be on the Volunteer Fireman Dependency Board.

  • In other action, trustees will pay Washington Ruritans to manage the monthly cleanup dumpster and maintain recycle bins, and contract with Stark County Engineer’s Office for road salt, and Kimble Co. for dumpster service.
