The big game is right around the corner, folks, and I'm not referring to Super Bowl Sunday. Rather, it's the 2021 Puppy Bowl us dog lovers are excited about! Gearing up for its 17th edition, Animal Planet will air Puppy Bowl XVII (also premiering on Discovery+) during which 70 adorable (and adoptable!) puppies from 22 different shelters will compete on Team Ruff or Team Fluff, in hopes of hoisting the "Lombarky" trophy.

During the epic three hour face-off, rescue pups will chase, drag, and tug doggie toys around a miniature football field into the end zone—talk about a cuteness overload! If you're interested in tuning into the annual canine sporting event, we've got the ultimutt guide ahead.

When is Puppy Bowl 2021?

Puppy Bowl XVII will air this Sunday, February 7th at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT, ahead of Super Bowl LV between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on CBS.

As an added bonus, viewers can tune into the hour-long Puppy Bowl XVII Pre-Game Show at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) with correspondents Rodt Weiler, James Hound, and Sheena Inu offering pup insights and casting predictions of which team will take home the Lombarky Trophy.

Where can I watch the Puppy Bowl?

The fur-ocious battle will air live on Animal Planet, and is also available to stream on Discovery+ for subscribers of the streaming service.

What happens during the Puppy Bowl?

Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg will throw an epic tailgate party as co-hosts this year.

Similar to years past, this four-legged match up divides 70 puppies into two teams—Team Ruff (orange bandanas) and Team Fluff (blue bandanas)—for a free-for-all tussle. Dynamic duo Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart are taking over hosting duties, rooting for the puppy players while creating Puppy Bowl-themed snacks, cocktails, and more. Martha's pups, French Bulldogs Crème Brûlée and Bête Noire, and Chow Chows Empress Qin and Emperor Han, as well as Snoop's French Bulldogs, Juelz Broadus and Choc are also slated to make special appearances.

ESPN's Monday Night Football play-by-play announcer Steve Levy and SportsCenter anchor Sage Steele will provide sideline commentary, while official Puppy Bowl "Rufferee" Dan Schachner will return for his 10th year of presiding over the game.

Aside from being oh-so cute, each Puppy Bowl player you see on screen is up for adoption from 22 shelters across the northeast U.S, with the hopes of matching the 100% adoption rate of the past 16 big games. While not watching the canine athletes, the Pup Close and Personal segments will help viewers learn more about the adoptable dogs' stories, their shelters and rescue groups, as well as the hardworking staff who are helping the puppy participants find their forever homes.
