Watch for banana peels! Life-sized Mario Kart spotted at Indy 500

Parked among the powerful Indy 500 cars at the year's race, spectators have spotted a familiar red and yellow go-kart driven by Mario, our favorite video game plumber.

For the love of God, someone tell Alex Palou, who has the fastest pole position speed in race history, to watch out for spiked blue turtle shells. Also, beware of Wario — he cheats.

On Sunday, promoters connected with the Super Mario Bros. Movie set up a display at Indianapolis Motor Speedway highlighting the film with a life-sized yellow Super Mario Bros. plumbing van and a go-kart from the popular video game, Mario Kart.

For those who have never played it, the game allows players to choose from several popular Mario Bros. characters, such as Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser and others, and race around different themed tracks using power-up items to thwart their competitors.

That said, we're reasonably sure all Indy 500 drivers at today's race won't be allowed to use banana peels or red tortoise shells to blast their way across the finish line.

The only question remaining is which Mario Kart character would you choose to race in the Indy 500, and why is it Yoshi?
