WATCH: Bears QB Andy Dalton hits WR Darnell Mooney deep at first training camp practice

The Chicago Bears practiced for the first time during training camp on Wednesday, where it was a light practice at Halas Hall.

While rookie quarterback Justin Fields will no doubt be a popular topic of conversation throughout training camp and into the regular season, it was veteran Andy Dalton who stole the show at the start of camp.

The Bears released a video clip of Dalton hitting wide receiver Darnell Mooney on a beauty of a deep ball during Wednesday’s practice. And it wasn’t his only one.

According to The Athletic‘s Kevin Fishbain, Dalton had several impressive deep balls to pass catchers on Wednesday, despite it being a scripted, helmets-only practice.

While there’s an excitement for the future with Fields at quarterback, Dalton is certainly an upgrade at the quarterback position from a year ago. Dalton has been receiving rave reviews since the offseason program, and the Bears feel confident they can win a lot of games with him. And if he can continue his impressive play once the live-game reps begin, it’ll be hard to disagree with that.
