Watch the Coast Guard rescue 2 plane crash survivors near Eastern North Carolina river

The U.S. Coast Guard released video Saturday of one of its helicopter crews hoisting survivors of a plane crash by the Tar River near Greenville.

The Coast Guard Sector North Carolina command center received a call from Pitt County emergency officials Friday requesting assistance at the scene of a crash near Pitt-Greenville Airport, according to a Coast Guard news release.

The command center sent an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City.

On-board video captures the crew safely hoisting the two adult survivors into the helicopter. Each survivor was lifted in a rescue basket. The video lasts for just over a minute.

Both survivors are conscious as they’re hoisted, according to the video. One stands up and walks in the helicopter after getting out of the basket, the video shows.

The crew took the survivors to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. The Coast Guard didn’t release their names or conditions. The cause of the crash was unknown Saturday.
