Watch Dior Fall/Winter 2020 Live From Paris Fashion Week
As Fashion Month draws to a close, the design world has its eyes set once again on the City of Lights. That’s right, Paris Fashion Week is finally here. While we await the deluge of street style royalty who are surely about to fill our Instagram feeds, we can turn our attention to the reason for the season: the runway, with Dior kicking off events with a live stream of the brand's new collection “I Say I.”
Dior is the first major show of the week, beginning at 8:30 AM ET (or, 2:30 PM Paris time) with its Fall/Winter 2020 ready-to-wear womenswear collection. What can we expect? Dior's creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri has been at the helm of the brand for the past four years. In that time, she’s explored several feminist and activist themes — for example, the label’s Haute Couture Spring 2020 show centered on the question “What If Women Ruled the World?”, which Dior sought to answer with the help of feminist artist Judy Chicago.
It looks like this season could continue those themes. Teasing the new collection on Instagram, Dior has posted several videos detailing the emotions and inspiration undergirding this season. In the first, Dior staff is interviewed about what the phrase “I Say I” means to them, with each of them discussing themes of empowerment.
The second and third videos are more forward, showing phrases like “when women strike the world stops” and “feminine beauty is ready-made” and gauging responses from Dior staff. It’s safe to say that these phrases and others like them will have a strong presence in Dior’s show today. It’s also possible that the show may feature talent from outside the Dior design team. As previous shows featured artists and photographers like Judy Chicago and Tomaso Binga, it would come as no surprise if some other faces from the art world made an appearance on the runway.
