What is DuckTales about?

This late-’80s TV staple lived on in cable reruns for years, becoming an iconic piece of Walt Disney Television history. The animated series grew so popular, in fact, that Disney XD rebooted the show in August 2017. Based upon the Uncle Scrooge comic books of the 1950s and ’60s, the “Duck universe” turned into a heavily merchandised, multimedia affair encompassing comics, video games, and a theatrical feature film.

DuckTales follows the adventures of the Dickensian Scrooge McDuck and his three grandnephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The basic premise of the show is that Uncle Scrooge is obscenely wealthy—the richest duck in the world—and, naturally, various antagonists take turns trying to steal this fortune from him. The ducks’ adventures take them all around the world, bringing in references and homages to historic, mythic, and pop-culture figures like Indiana Jones, Jack the Ripper, and William Shakespeare.
