Watch this: Doc10 film festival at Davis Theater

With Lincoln Square’s Davis Theater as home base, this annual Chicago documentary film fest will present eight titles between Friday and Sunday, with the hotly anticipated Anthony Bourdain cine-portrait “Roadrunner” capping the weekend at 7 p.m. Sunday. Go to doc10.org for the full schedule and ticket availability; also, check out the adjoining Carbon Arc Bar & Board restaurant, which is really good and totally handy before, between or after screenings. Sorry, Louisa, I don’t usually stick my nose in the food part of this! What’s on your Lincoln Square radar, besides possible UFOs? We should point out for the record that in our line of work, UFO stands for Unidentified Flying Opinion. Davis Theater, 4614 N Lincoln Ave., (773) 769-3999, doc10.orgMichael Phillips

Eat this: Calumet Fisheries

Oh Michael, we have to take a road trip in honor of dearly departed friends. Go to Calumet Fisheries on the South Side of Chicago, where I took Tony Bourdain, and last year we lost beloved manager Carlos Rosas. Get seafood smoked in the shack next to one of the last remaining stands (it’s always been takeout only in South Deering). The James Beard award-winning shop is open year-round, but it’s not summer to me without a stop overlooking the Calumet River, where now I’ll remember meals once shared and roads yet traveled. 3259 E. 95th St, 773-933-9855, calumetfisheries.comLouisa Chu

Watch this: “In the Heights”

The snazzy film version of creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s pre-“Hamilton” musical takes place in a sweltering stretch of summer, with blackouts looming and a neighborhood (Upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights) full of dreams and desires on the boil. Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican and Dominican cultures set the score’s rhythms, while star Anthony Ramos and company share the storytelling duties. Louisa, pardon my ALL-CAPS ENTHUSIASM, but please, guide us to something PERTINENT and TASTY, can you? (In theaters, HBO Max) — Michael Phillips

Eat that: Jibaritos y Mas

So Michael, you know one of our local food specialties has become the jibarito, the Chicago-style Puerto Rican sandwich that slides bread aside for smashed and fried plantains. Yet one of the best makers is Venezuelan. Yelitza Rivera opened Jibaritos y Mas in 2016 with the classic steak filling, plus requisite garlic smears, lettuce, tomato and American cheese. My favorite, though, remains morcilla, made with her own crisp-skinned yet tenderly rendered rice and spice stuffed blood sausage. It’s music to my soul. Go to their locations in Logan Square, Dunning and Lincoln Park. Jibaritos y Mas, 3400 W. Fullerton Ave., 773-799-8601; 3317 N. Harlem Ave., 773-647-1122; 2616 N. Watch this: “Grease” at Pilsen’s ChiTownMovies

This 1978 musical may be more “beloved” than “good,” but with numbers like “Born to Hand Jive” and “We Go Together,” plus that scene at the drive-in movie, what better place to revisit the John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John smash than an actual drive-in? Pilsen’s ChiTownMovies keeps a busy schedule going most of the year; “Grease” slides onto the calendar Tuesday for a cool $33 a carload (limit six adults per greased-lighting hot rod or, in my case, per Honda Fit). If only we had someone on staff here at the Tribune to offer a pre-show dining suggestion ... wait! I know! Louisa Chu! ChiTownMovies, 2343 S. Throop St., chitownmovies.comMichael Phillips

Eat that: Carnitas Uruapan

¡Gracias Michael! You can order food and drink right at the drive-in, including one free small popcorn per car, but I can’t wait that late for dinner. Since you’ll be in Pilsen, go before the show to Carnitas Uruapan, currently open for takeout only. Inocencio Carbajal founded the family business in 1975 with his signature slow-cooked pork and crackling crunchy chicharrones. Son Marcos Carbajal expanded the menu a bit, keeping the terrific tacos, of course, and added a second location in Gage Park, where you’ll find indoor seating and creative paletas for those oh, oh, summer nights. 1725 W. 18th St., 312-226-2654; 2813 W. 55th St., 773-424-7617; carnitasuruapanchi.com Louisa Chu
