Watch fawn stuck in drainage ditch get help from firefighters as mom deer supervises
An adorable video shows firefighters rescuing a tiny mule deer fawn from a drainage culvert in South Dakota.
The little fawn — which doesn’t look like it stands even 2 feet tall — was trapped by the tall walls of the culvert, photos posted to the Rapid City Fire Department’s Facebook page show.
Its squeaky cries can be heard as a small team of firefighters gathers around the baby deer and one of them hoists him up onto their hip, the video in the Sept. 26 post shows.
Photos show the fawn running back and forth between the firefighters on either end of the culvert before the rescue. But it all worked out in the end, officials said.
“The mama deer was watching from nearby, and they were reunited,” officials said. “You could say it was a fawn-tastic rescue!”
Rapid City is about 30 miles east of Black Hills National Forest in western South Dakota and is known as the gateway to Mount Rushmore.
