Watch: First episode of new ‘Pokémon: Hisuian Snow’ anime series
The Pokémon Company has released the first episode of their new anime digital short series, “Pokémon: Hisuian Snow.”
The series will be three episodes long and is based on the Hisui region, the Sinnoh region of the distant past as featured in the Nintendo Switch game “Pokémon Legends: Arceus.” It is animated by Wit Studio, which also worked on the animes “Attack on Titan” and “Vinland Saga.”
Unlike the player’s character in “Pokémon Legends: Arceus,” the protagonist of this series is not a time traveler sent by the god Pokémon Arceus through a rip in the sky. The first episode, “Onto the Icy Blue” from writer Taku Kishimoto and director Ken Yamamoto, showcases a young boy named Alec (Lizzie Freeman) and his father (Steve Kramer) as they travel to harvest lumber.
In Hisui, many grow up believing people and Pokémon can’t live together. But when Alec meets a Hisuian Zorua, he may need to rethink how he views Pokémon!

Like in the console game, the Hisuian region in this series takes place at a time when Pokémon and humans had not yet learned to coexist in the way shown by characters like Ash and Pikachu. The first episode sees Alec’s father give a warning about wandering off and to be wary of a dangerous Hisuian Zoroark, one that has suffered at the hands of humans, living in the forest.
Alec stumbles upon a shiny Hisuian Zorua — blue and white-colored instead of the usual red and black — and their first meeting leads to them tumbling off a cliff. With the episode runtime at just around six minutes, viewers will have to stay tuned in to find out what happens next.
