“Maybe love will set you free.”

A grit-filled voice teases the horror and romance theme of the new cannibal movie Bones and All starring Timothée Chalamet as a blood-spattered twink.

Chalamet teams up with his director from his 2017 breakout role in Call Me by Your Name Luca Guadagnino again for this new romantic thriller.

Based on a novel of the same name, Bones and All follows two teen cannibals Lee (Chalamet) and Maren (Taylor Russell) as they travel through the backroads of America. It also stars Michael Stuhlbarg as a creepy, mysterious man, along with André Holland, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon Green, Jessica Harper, Jake Horowitz, Francesca Scorsese, Anna Cobb, and Mark Rylance as another creepy character.

“There is something about the disenfranchised, about people living on the margins of society, that I am drawn toward and touched by. I want to see where the possibilities lie for them, enmeshed within the impossibility they face,” Guadagnino said in a statement about the film. “The movie is for me a meditation on who I am and how I can overcome what I feel, especially if it is something I cannot control in myself. And lastly, and most importantly, when will I be able to find myself in the gaze of the other?”

The trailer shows Lee and Maren in various locations, like sitting by a river, staying in roadside motels, driving at night, sitting by campfires. The mood is appropriately dark, sultry, brutal, and hypnotizing.

While watching, you can almost understand how a young person could get caught up in a relationship like this. It's dark and gritty, but it has a dream-like beauty to it.

Chalamet and Guadagnino aren’t the only CMBYN alums to have a cannibal-related story in the news right now. The film’s other star, Armie Hammer, was also recently the subject of a new Discovery+ docuseries titled House of Hammer that will explore accusations against the actor that he sexually harassed women and has a cannibal fetish.

Bones and All debuts in select theaters on November 18 and everywhere on Thanksgiving. Watch the trailer below.
