Ta'Niya Latson, Florida State women's basketball set records in win over Syracuse

3-pointers: The Seminoles will face Wake Forest after the Demon Deacons defeated Virginia 68-57 in the first round Wednesday. ... FSU finished 14-1 at home this season, its best since finishing 15-1 in the 2015-16 season. They were 7-5 on the road and 2-2 in neutral-site games. ... Freshman guard Ta'Niya Latson was named the ACC Rookie of the Year, chosen to the All-ACC First Team and also to the ACC All-Freshman Team. She is 41 points shy of becoming the second Seminole to reach 700 points in a year and has 18 20-point performances this season. ... Timpson finished second in the ACC with 13 double-doubles this season and 11th in the country with 67 total blocked shots. ... The Seminoles begin the ACC Tournament with a NET ranking of 20th and are projected to be a No. 6 seed currently by ESPN's Charlie Creme. The top four seeds earn first-round games at home and FSU is alive with a strong tournament showing. ... FSU has 15 wins against the NET Top 100, which s tied for the ninth-most in the country. ... Florida State has reached six semifinals in the ACC Tournament as well as two finals appearances, with the last coming in the 2020 ACC Championship game vs. NC State. FSU also reached the finals in the 2015 tournament against Notre Dame. The Seminoles are a No. 5 seed in the ACC Tournament for the fourth time. It was also a No. 5 seed in 1992, 2004 and 2007.

What FSU needs to do to win: FSU went a combined 3-0 against possible ACC Second Round opponents Wake Forest (2-0) and Virginia (1-0). Against the Demon Deacons, the Seminoles had three players average double figures in Ta’Niya Latson (17.0), Valencia Myers (15.0) and Makayla Timpson (12.0). FSU defeated Virginia 77-68 (Jan. 19), as well as Wake Forest 72-44 (Feb. 2) and 61-60 (Feb. 23). ... The Seminoles enter the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament ranking in the Top 10 nationally in free throws made per game (16.5; fourth), blocks per game (5.7; sixth), defensive rebounds per game (30.9; sixth), rebounds per game (43.6; eighth) and scoring offense (80.9; ninth). ... Florida State’s 80.9 points per game marks the first time the program has led the ACC in scoring offense in the regular season. FSU ranks ninth nationally in scoring and has scored 70+ points in 28 of 31 games played.
