Fort Payne's Evan McPherson has been one of the biggest stars of the NFL postseason.

McPherson made a 31-yard field goal in overtime Sunday to send the Cincinnati Bengals to the Super Bowl after a 27-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

McPherson's game-winner was his fourth made field goal of the game and his second consecutive walk-off game-winner. The Fort Payne High School alumnus is now 12-for-12 in the postseason.

McPherson played his college football at Florida and was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bengals. Cincinnati has beaten Las Vegas, Tennessee and Kansas City en route to Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles on Feb. 13.

The Bengals will play the Los Angeles Rams, who beat the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC title later Sunday.

Other players with state ties on Super Bowl rosters include defensive lineman Damion Square and offensive tackle Jonah Williams of Alabama as well as tight end C.J. Uzumah of Auburn for the Bengals; and offensive tackle Chandler Brewer of Florence, (Middle Tennessee) and practice squad snapper Carson Tinker of Alabama for the Rams.
