Dateline: On the Hunt for The Zombie Hunter (9 p.m., NBC)

Keith Morrison reports on the murders of two young women — Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas — near a Phoenix, Arizona, canal in the early 1990s. The case remained unsolved for more than 20 years, until a team of cold case detectives used inventive techniques and groundbreaking forensic genealogy to find the killer. Bryan Patrick Miller was convicted of the murders earlier this year.

The report includes exclusive interviews connected to the case, including a co-worker of one of the victims, investigators, attorneys and forensic genealogist Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick.

20/20: She Was Almost Home (9 p.m., ABC)

John Quiñones has the story of 20-year-old Sierah Joughin, a University of Toledo student who vanished in the summer of 2016 while biking home from her boyfriend’s house in Delta, Ohio. The community organized a massive search effort, but after days of searching, she was not found. Her bicycle was discovered in a nearby cornfield, where there were signs that a struggle had taken place.

The police investigation led to a local man, James Worley. Worley behaved suspiciously when police visited his home, so they returned with a search warrant and found in his barn “a crate filled with women’s lingerie and an empty, blood-stained freezer buried underground,” says ABC. Police called it “the barn of horrors.”

Worley was arrested and charged in the disappearance of Joughin, and when her body was found later that same day in a cornfield near Worley’s home, he was charged with murder and kidnapping. A jury found him guilty in 2017 and he was sentenced to death.

Worley had earlier attempted to abduct a woman named Robin Gardner, who testified at his murder trial. ABC has an interview with her tonight, and with Joughin’s family members and her boyfriend at the time. Also, exclusive interviews with police investigators.
