What to Watch Friday: A series on horror queen Shirley Jackson, new 20/20 report

20/20: The Sins of the Father (9 p.m., ABC) - ABC News anchor David Muir reports on Karl Karlsen, who murdered his wife and son in incidences nearly 18 years apart — and nearly got away with it. The special includes interviews with his daughters, Erin DeRoche and Kati Reynolds, who talk about the heartbreak of losing their mother, Christina Karlsen, and their brother, Levi Karlsen.

Race Matters: America in Crisis (9 p.m., PBS / UNC-TV) - This PBS NewsHour special focuses on the frustration and outrage in American streets over police brutality and the country’s deep systemic racial disparities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shirley (Hulu) - Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men,” “Handmaid’s Tale”) stars in this new series about a man and woman who move to a small Vermont college town and get an offer for free room and board from a professor, in exchange for looking after his wife, acclaimed horror author Shirley Jackson (Moss).

We Are Freestyle Love Supreme (Hulu) - A Hulu original documentary about “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s improvisational hip-hop group called Freestyle Love Supreme. The film chronicles the group in the summer of 2005, documenting their early days of beatboxing and rapping on New York City sidewalks, unaware of how their story would unfold.

Dear … (Apple TV+) - A new docuseries profiling 10 game-changing icons and showing how one person’s story can change the world through the people whose lives they’ve inspired. The series will feature Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Stevie Wonder, Big Bird, Misty Copeland, Aly Raisman and Yara Shahidi.
