How to watch: FSU women's basketball in the first round of NCAA Tournament vs. Georgia

Florida State women's basketball is back in the NCAA Tournament for the 10th straight season.

The Seminoles join Baylor, Louisville, Maryland, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee and UConn as active programs to do so.

No. 7 FSU (23-9) will take on No. 10 Georgia (21-11) in the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

The winner of this game will play the winner of No. 15 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 2 Iowa on Sunday in the Round of 32.

What to know about FSU vs. UGA

  • Freshman guard Ta’Niya Latson, averaging 25.3 points and 50.9 percent shooting against non-conference opponents this season, is out for the tournament with an undisclosed injury. Latson, who averaged 21.3 points per game, set the ACC freshman record for scoring. Her six 30-point games are the most in a single season in FSU history.

  • Sophomore guard O'Mariah Gordon (undisclosed) has also been ruled out.

  • Georgia and Florida State are meeting for the ninth time in and for the first time since 2011. The Seminoles are 0-8 all-time against the Bulldogs, including a victory in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

  • FSU is one of eight programs in the NCAA Tournament that are scoring an average of 80 points or more this season. The Seminoles are averaging an ACC-best 80.1 points per game.

  • FSU enters its NCAA First Round matchup ranking in the Top 10 nationally in free throws made per game (sixth), blocks per game (eighth), defensive rebounds per game (eighth), rebounds per game (ninth) and scoring offense (10th).

  • Georgia won eight of its final 11 games entering the NCAA tournament, with the lone losses coming to No. 1 South Carolina and No. 3 LSU.

  • Makayla Timpson's 13 double-doubles this season are tied for second most at FSU.

  • FSU is looking for its first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2019 when it defeated No. 12 seed Bucknell, 70-67, in Charlotte.

  • The Seminoles’ 176 blocked shots this season, which rank eighth nationally, are a program record.

  • Erin Howard’s current 3-point field goals made a streak of 25 straight games is the longest by a Seminole since Imani Wright had a 28-game streak during the 2017-18 season.

What FSU needs to do to win

  • First-year Bulldog head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson has built the team around defense. Georgia led the SEC in turnover margin (+3.78) and steals (10.4 per game), was second in turnovers forced (20.2) and fourth in scoring defense (58.4 ppg) this season. The team has held opponents to single-digit quarters on 18 occasions.

  • Guard Diamond Battles led the Bulldogs with 14.3 points per game while shooting 39% from the field. She was named All-SEC Second Team and to the All-Defensive Team. Forward Brittney Smith (11.8) is the only other Bulldog to average double-figure in points.

  • Forward Javyn Nicholson averaged 9.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

  • Guard Alisha Lewis led the SEC in turnover-assist ratio.
