Based on a true story, Cassandro follows Saúl Armendáriz (played by Gael García Bernal), a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, Texas, who, with the help of his new manager, comes up with a character named Cassandro, who was known as “The Liberace of Lucha Libre.”

"In the process, he upends not just the macho wrestling world, but also his own life," according to a description by Prime Video.

Cassandro follows Armendáriz as he, with the help of his new trainer, Sabrina (A League of Their Own’s Roberta Colindrez), comes up with the flamboyant and over-the-top wrestling persona of Cassandro.

The film is directed by Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams and was written by Williams and David Teague.

In an exclusive clip below, Armendáriz opens up about his persona to Raúl Castillo’s character, saying that Cassandro is “sexy” and “daring.” He’s also probably a top, Armendáriz says. Castillo's character isn't too impressed with the focus on the character, telling Armendáriz that he likes him exactly how he is.
