Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus revealed last year it would build a modern interpretation of Steve McQueen's Baja Boot, a purpose-built off-roader designed for high-speed desert racing. The car, simply called the Glickenhaus Boot, is now a reality, and the company is planning on taking it to the Baja 1000.

The company's Twitter account has been sharing scenes from Boot development testing out in the desert, from low-speed rock-crawling to high-speed desert runs. Its latest video gives us a glimpse of just how capable the stubby off-roader is:

Here we can see it barreling through rutted desert terrain with ease, scaling mountainsides, and even catch a bit of air. It looks supremely prepared for the rigors of the Baja 1000, which is set to take place next week, starting November 19, 2019.

The Glickenhaus Boot will join another notable entry at the race this year: the factory-backed Ford Bronco R prototype, a one-off racing truck with body panels are supposed to resemble the upcoming production Bronco.

The best part about the Boot is that it's also the basis for a production vehicle. The road-ready version is powered a 460-horsepower Chevy LT1 V-8, packs 19 inches of suspension travel, and a high-capacity 45-gallon fuel tank. It's sold under the NHTSA's low-volume program, with the company claiming it should be 49-state legal. It has a slightly shorter wheelbase and a bit less suspension travel than the Boot going to Baja, but should prove nearly as fun—especially on the street.
