It’s an age-old question: are Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling related? The Deadpool actor and La La Land star both hail from Canada and are both, notoriously, sought-after heartthrobs with chiseled jawlines and serious acting chops (and the same first name). They do share a certain physical resemblance, too.
Currently, Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal are doing press for their new movie, Life, so WIRED got the duo to respond to the internet’s most burning questions about each of them, using Google auto-complete prompts as a jumping off point. Naturally, one of the queries was about Reynolds and Gosling’s potentially shared genetic material. Gyllenhaal was happy to explain just how they’re related.
“Canada had sex with America, and then they made the two of them and they’re twins,” Gyllenhaal joked. “And both of them tried to eat each other in the womb.”
“That’s true,” Reynolds interjected, deadpan.
“But they didn’t, and they survived, and because of the trauma they both became actors,” Gyllenhaal finished.
