GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kansas State's reward for knocking off Montana State, 77-65, late Thursday night in its first-round NCAA Tournament game was not the dessert that typically accompanies a Wildcat road victory.

Instead of ice cream — or doughnuts or cookies — the Wildcats got a round of ice baths before returning to their hotel at roughly 1 a.m. The next challenge: a Sunday afternoon showdown with college basketball blueblood Kentucky at Greensboro Coliseum.

The winner of this Wildcat fight between No. 3 seed K-State (24-9) and No. 6 Kentucky  (22-11) gets an all-expenses-paid trip to the East Regional's Sweet 16 at New York's Madison Square Garden. Kentucky advanced with a 61-53 first-round victory over Providence.

K-State turned to its first team Big 12 all-conference stars Keyontae Johnson (18 points, eight rebounds) and Markquis Nowell (17 points, 14 assists, six rebounds, three steals) against Montana State. For Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves had 22 points, forward Jacob Toppin 18 points and six rebounds, and burly forward Osca Tshiebwe eight points and an astounding 25 rebounds in the victory over Providence.

Tshiebwe came into the tournament averaging 16.5 points and 13.1 rebounds, Reeves 14.4 points and Topping 12.5 points.

Oddsmakers listed Kentucky as an early 1.5-point favorite.
