Asked after the Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 27-24 in the Divisional Round what it means to play in an AFC Championship Game for the sixth straight season, KC defensive lineman Chris Jones thought about the effort that went into this remarkable streak.

And offered a shout-out to the organization that made it for eight straight years.

“A lot of darn hard work,” Jones said. “Nothing comes easy. It took a lot of commitment from a lot of guys in order to be successful. You’ve seen it multiple years with the Patriots organization.”

New England went to eight straight AFC Championship Games starting in 2011, with the final AFC title game coming in Kansas City — a 37-31 overtime triumph over the Chiefs.

That game started the Chiefs’ current streak.

“This run, to be part of this organization, to be in the AFC Championship Game, that’s what you try to do every single season,” said Patrick Mahomes, who as a starting quarterback has never not played in the conference title game. “It’s why you work in OTAs, why you work out in the offseason and grind every single day.”
