NEW YORK — Kansas State is back in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 for the first time since 2018 and will face Michigan State on Thursday in the East Regional semifinal at Madison Square Garden.

The third-seeded Wildcats (25-9) advanced with a 75-69 second-round victory over Kentucky on Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina, while No. 7 Michigan State (21-12) upset No. 2 Marquette, 69-60, in Columbus, Ohio.

Michigan State is coached by Naismith Hall of Famer Tom Izzo, in his 28th season. He led the Spartans to a national championship in 2002 and a runner-up finish in 2009. The Spartans are led in scoring by senior guard Tyson Walker with 14.5 points per game, and 6-foot-9 senior forward Joey Hauser with 14.3 and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game.

For K-State, under first-year head coach Jerome Tang, senior forward Keyontae Johnson averages 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, while point guard Markquis Nowell adds 17.1 points and 7.8 assists.
