Replay: University of Michigan to elect Santa Ono its new president

The University of Michigan Board of Regents has called a special meeting at 1 p.m. Wednesday to elect a new president of the university.

As previously revealed by the Free Press Tuesday night, Santa Ono, who at one time was the most notable college president in the country, will take the reins at U-M.

Ono is the current president at the University of British Columbia and the former president of the University of Cincinnati. He is well-known for his connection with students and the community.

Ono will take over from interim President Mary Sue Coleman, who served as president from 2002 to 2014. She was brought back to campus in January to replace Mark Schlissel, who was fired by the board for having an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate employee.
