Watch replay: City announces Texas DPS to assist Austin police on patrols

The city of Austin is hosted a press conference Monday afternoon to announce new plans for public safety.

As the Statesman exclusively reported, Texas Department of Public Safety will begin working with the Austin Police Department to provide routine citywide patrols and possibly respond to 911 calls. Details of the partnership are still being worked out.

Among those at the city's press conference were Interim Austin City Manager Jesús Garza, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven McCraw.
