Ahead of the Nov. 8 election, the two candidates for U.S. Senate will face off in a debate at Palm Beach State College's Lake Worth Beach campus.

Hosted by ABC affiliate WPBF 25 News, the debate between incumbent U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and U.S. Rep. Val Demings will be moderated by news anchor Todd McDermott. The Palm Beach Post Executive Editor Rick Christie and Florida Trend Executive Editor Vicki Chachere will ask additional questions. The debate is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Who’s debating?

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is running for his third term in the Senate as the GOP nominee after first being elected in 2010. The incumbent previously ran for president in 2016 but dropped out of the presidential race after coming in second to Donald Trump in the Florida Republican primary. Rubio sought out his Senate seat after his failed presidential run.

Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., is seeking to replace Rubio as one of the state’s Senators after serving in the United States House of Representatives for three terms, representing Florida’s 10th district. Demings served as one of the seven impeachment managers in Trump’s 2020 Senate impeachment trials.

The handling of several issues, including abortion rights, healthcare costs, inflation and the state of the economy, at the top of voters’ minds are at stake in November as both political parties and candidates have opposing policy approaches.
