Multiple law enforcement agencies gathered for a press conference Thursday to announce an arrest made in fatal apartment fire in San Marcos in 2018.

Hays County Jail records show 30-year-old Jacobe Ferguson was booked into the facility Wednesday on a charge of arson causing serious bodily injury or death, a first degree-felony for which he faces life in prison. Ferguson was confirmed as a suspect in the 2018 fire during the press conference.

The fire at Iconic Village Apartments on July 20, 2018, killed five people and injured multiple people, including a man who suffered third-degree burns.

Agencies at the press conference included the San Marcos Fire Department; the San Marcos Police Department; the Houston Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); the Hays County District Attorney’s Office; Hays County Justice of the Peace; and the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers Division.
