A few weeks ago, Lucid announced that the Dream Edition of their upcoming Air will be capable of a 9.9 second quarter mile. In a test shared earlier this week, the company showed a testing mule capable of an even more startling number.
Yes, this is a Lucid Air completing a quarter mile in 9.25 seconds, at a speed of 157 miles per hour.
Performance testing of the #LucidAir platform continues. As we push Lucid's in-house developed EV powertrain tech to new heights, today we share our latest work-in-progress: A 9.245 second 1/4 mile @ 157.26 mph. Stay tuned for more. pic.twitter.com/7OQQodTjuk

The video appears to show a test of an experimental variant of Lucid's internally-developed powertrain, but the already-absurd performance numbers attached to the variants announced make a production version capable of this level of performance seem entirely plausible. Any edition above the already-absurd Dream Edition will be in direct competition with Tesla's recently announced Model S Plaid, an absurd car in its own right.
That Dream Edition, the fastest currently-announced variant of the Air, will be available next year at a starting price of $169,000.
