Matthew Stafford spent 12 years with the Detroit Lions and for the first time in his career on Sunday, he battled against his former team. He and the Rams hosted the Lions at SoFi Stadium, a game Los Angeles was expected to win comfortably.

But the Lions gave the Rams everything they had, including an onside kick and two fake punts to make things interesting. Stafford helped lift the Rams to victory with another 300-yard, three-touchdown performance, reminding those in Detroit just how good he is.

Stafford was fittingly mic’d up for this matchup with the Lions, giving Rams fans a peek behind the curtain of how he operates as a quarterback. He’s very clearly a leader – and a vocal one – on the field and sideline, getting guys in position and directing the offense.

He’s also quite confident, both in himself and his teammates.

“It’s man coverage. I’m going to throw a touchdown to Van Jefferson,” Stafford said on the sideline after throwing a touchdown pass to the second-year wideout.

Stafford also has a great relationship and connection with Sean McVay already despite being just seven games into the season, and McVay loves what he’s seen from his new quarterback thus far.

“Hey, three drives, two touchdowns and a field goal. We’re just getting you started. Great job, man,” McVay told Stafford.

Upon taking the field in the second half, Stafford told the offense that they were going to score on every drive.

“Come back out in the second half, every time we touch it, we score. Now let’s go put your mind to it, let’s go,” he said.
