For the millions of viewers and it’s unrivaled popularity among major professional sports, the NFL would have been hard pressed to win a popularity contest this past week. The league office certainly isn’t a fan favorite among Cowboys Nation, and especially after the referee debacle that took place on Sunday afternoon in Foxboro.

The Dallas Cowboys had to defeat a game New England Patriots thanks to the kitchen sink thrown at them by masterful head coach Bill Belichick, but escaped with a thrilling 35-29 victory. The game’s momentum swung several times over the last quarter and into overtime, but the first major salvo was unique and all-too-familiar at the same time. With Dallas trailing and things looking bleak, there was cornerback Trevon Diggs intercepting a pass for the sixth-straight game.

On his seventh interception of the young season, tying a mark set by then-DPOY Rod Woodson in 1993, Diggs broke on a Mac Jones pass for Kendrick Bourne and when the wide receiver was unable to corral it, Diggs was able to. And then, like he did a couple of weeks ago, Diggs housed it.

Diggs is the first player in franchise history with an interception in six-straight contests to start a season and he tied the NFL record originally set by Tom Landry in 1951 and tied two times since. Yes, that Tom Landry. His streak has fans, media and former and current players shipping him with the Defensive Player of the Year award already and following the game, the NFL’s social media account got in on the celebration, too.
