Watch Ole Miss women's basketball celebrate upset of No. 1 Stanford in NCAA Tournament

Ole Miss defeated No. 1-seeded Stanford 54-49 on Sunday night on the Cardinal's home court in Maples Pavilion in Stanford, California, knocking out a titan of women's basketball while making a historic run of its own.

No. 8-seeded Ole Miss (25-8), coming off its first NCAA Tournament win in 16 years, became the first team to eliminate a top seed this season.

The Rebels will face the winner of Monday's (5) Louisville vs. (4) Texas game (7 p.m., ESPN).

Stanford (29-6) reached the Final Four last season and won the national championship in 2021. The Cardinal hadn't finished worse than the Sweet 16 in 16 years — a span that included nine Final Fours.

So when a desperation 3-pointer clanged the backboard as time expired on their bracket-busting upset in the Round of 32, the Rebels went running to center court to celebrate.

Historically, the game was a huge mismatch. On the court, however, the Rebels' defense made the difference.

Ole Miss has reached the Sweet 16 without giving up 50 points in either of its NCAA Tournament games this season. The Rebels held the Cardinal to 2-of-7 shooting from 3-point range (29%), below their season averages of 35% shooting from long range while hitting an average of 6.9 per game.

Stanford was a 12.5-point favorite on FanDuel.com heading into Sunday's matchup.
