Watch as playful dog interrupts soccer game and refuses to let go of the ball in Chile

The soccer game was just getting started. Fans filled the stadium in Curicó, Chile, as the home team, Curicó Unido, faced off against Palestino, a visiting Chilean team.

But the game was interrupted by an unexpected visitor. A large brown dog suddenly appeared on the field, video shared May 14 by TNT Sports Chile on Twitter shows.

The playful dog ran down the field, then quickly changed course to follow the ball. Video shows the dog rushing to the ball as the game stops. The referee and several players approach the dog and unsuccessfully try to get the ball back.

Another video shared by 9 News on Facebook shows a player pet the dog as it holds the ball in its mouth and paws. The dog laid down on top of the ball.

One of the Palestino players, Maximiliano Salas, picked up the dog and began carrying it off the field, Chilean news outlet Deportes 13 reported.

Still, the dog refused to let go of the ball, clamping its mouth down as the laughing players took it off the field, video from 9 News shows. Eventually, the dog let go, and Salas handed the pup to another stadium official.

“He wants to play with them,” a Facebook user commented.

“Give him the ball,” one person commented on the Facebook video.

“I feel like the dog earned the ball,” another Facebook user commented.

The Premier Division game resumed after the adorable interruption, Deportes 13 reported. The game ended with a score of Palestino 1 and Curicó Unido 0, according to ESPN.

Curicó is about 140 miles southwest of Santiago, the capital of Chile.
