The Providence College men's basketball team is off to its best start in more than 40 years, but the Friars face a stiff test this week.
PC travels to Cincinnati on Wednesday to take on Xavier, a matchup of two Top 25 teams.
Providence College improved to 16-2 on the season Sunday with a hard-fought 69-62 win over the Butler Bulldogs. PC hasn't started a season this strongly since the 1977-78 campaign, and the Friars are 6-1 in conference play, the team's best-ever start against league foes.
The Friars climbed in both major polls following the victory. PC is now ranked No. 17 in both the Ferris Mowers USA Today coaches' poll as well as The Associated Press and also inXavier comes into the game ranked 21st by the AP and 23rd by the coaches.
Xavier (14-4 overall, 4-3 Big 10) shot just 39 percent from the field Sunday in a 75-64 loss at Marquette.
Who to watch in the PC-Xavier game
Senior center Nate Watson comes into the matchup averaging just over 14 points per game for the Friars. He poured in 18 points in Sunday's win over Butler while senior Al Durham added 12.
PC's reserves came up big in the win with Jared Bynum and Ed Croswell coming off the bench with 10 points apiece.
Xavier was led Sunday by Paul Scruggs with 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Jack Nunge, who has been the Musketeers' leading scorer this season at 12 points per game, was held to 8 points on 3-of-8 shooting.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
