The on-screen reunion we needed.

Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman are trading in comedy for drama.

The two real-life friends and former Reba co-stars will reunite on the small screen in the Lifetime original movie, The Hammer.

The film is inspired by the life of traveling circuit judge Kim Wanker. McEntire takes on the role of the fictional Kim Wheeler, described as "an outspoken, firecracker lawyer who is appointed Judge of the 5th District of Nevada."

She's whip-smart and savvy—and as the trailer reveals, has no problem taking out anyone who crosses her with a gavel… metaphorically and physically.

The trailer takes a dark turn when it's revealed that Peterman's character Kris, Kim's sister, the owner of a local brothel, becomes the main suspect in the murder of the judge Kim replaced, played by McEntire's real-life boyfriend, Rex Linn.

The connection to her personal life forces Kim to "work even harder to make certain the appropriate justice is served."

"Would you say I'm a loose cannon?" Kim asks officer Vicky (played by Kay Shioma Metchie) at one point, to which she replies, "No," before adding, "at least not to your face."

Here's the official synopsis for the film: "After the reigning judge passes away under suspicious circumstances, Kim finds herself covering a circuit that stretches between Las Vegas and Reno — a rugged, often desolate area where anything and everything can happen. With gavel in hand, she lays down the law with a no-nonsense brand of justice, that quickly earns her the nickname 'The Hammer.'"

McEntire and Peterman previously shared the screen from 2001 to 2007 on the hit WB series, where Reba played a single mom who works too hard, while Peterman tackled the role of Barbara Jean, the ditzy dental hygienist who broke up Reba's marriage and ended up moving in across the street from her.

The fabulous duo reunited on other projects briefly, including CMT's Working Class and Freeform's Baby Daddy.

There is currently no premiere date for the film, but fans can expect the thrilling adventure to start sometime in 2023.

Until then, McEntire is trading off one picturesque town for another as she joins Big Sky Season 3—premiering on September 21 on ABC—as the new big bad.

We're really living for all this versatility the country star is giving us when it comes to her characters lately!
