The 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is set to air on HBO and HBO Max on Saturday, Nov. 19.

The ceremony took place Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Hall of Fame inducted Eminem, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar (with husband/guitarist Neil Giraldo), Eurythmics, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon as the Class of 2022.

Additional performers and industry figures were honored in three separate categories — Musical Excellence, Early Influences and the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Heavy-metal legends Judas Priest, led by part-time Valley resident Rob Halford, were honored for Musical Excellence.

Will the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction be televised?

Yes.

You may be thinking of the revolution, which will not be televised — as Gil Scott-Heron told us long before his own induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as an Early Influence.

Where can I watch the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony 2022?

The ceremony airs at 6 p.m. Arizona time on Saturday, Nov. 19, on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max alongside a radio simulcast on SiriusXM’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Radio channel 310 and Volume channel 106.

The pre-ceremony red carpet livestream will also return with media personality Bevy Smith set to host. The red carpet event begins before the Induction Ceremony and will be livestreamed on the Rock Hall’s YouTube channel.

Who was inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022?

The Class of 2022 is an eclectic mix, from Duran Duran and Eurythmics repping the New Wave era to country icon Dolly Parton, hip-hop legend Eminen, Pat Benatar (with husband Neil Giraldo), Lionel Richie and Carly Simon.

Five of those seven performers are first-time nominees.

The performer category honors bands and solo artists who have created music with originality, impact and influence that the hall believes has changed the course of rock 'n' roll.

That's all very subjective, of course.

The hall will also honor Judas Priest and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis for Musical Excellence; Harry Belafonte and Elizabeth Cotten as Early Influences; and Allen Grubman, Jimmy Iovine and Sylvia Robinson with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

The Musical Excellence Award, according to the rock hall's website, is presented to “artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music.”

The Ahmet Ertegun Award honors non-performing industry officials who have made a major influence on the creative development and growth of rock 'n' roll and music that has impacted youth culture.

The Early Influence Award is right there in the name.

How the museum will honor this year's inductees

A special exhibit dedicated to this year’s inductees will open Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland and will feature a wide array of artifacts from this year’s class.

Highlights include:

  • Dolly Parton’s Gibson Blueshawk guitar as featured on the Backwoods Barbie tour.

  • Carly Simon’s handwritten lyric draft for “You’re So Vain” (which is not, as it turns out, about you).

  • Eminem’s outfit as seen on the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show.

  • Elizabeth Cotton’s Acoustic guitar that she began playing in the 1950s, leading to her career as an influential artist of the American folk music revival.

  • Pat Benatar’s coat from the video for “Invincible.”

  • Ian Hill’s Fender Jazz Bass guitar played on every Judas Priest album and tour between 1974 and 1984.

Who has the most inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

There are no second-time inductees going in this year. But it's been known to happen, although Eric Clapton is the only person to have been inducted three times — as a solo artist as well as a member of Cream and the Yardbirds.

All four Beatles have been inducted twice.

So has the most successful artist ever born in Phoenix — Stevie Nicks is in there as a solo artist and with Fleetwood Mac.

There are a total of 26 artists who have been inducted more than once.

The others are Paul Simon, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Curtis Mayfield, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Lou Reed, Jeff Beck, Tina Turner, Jimmy Page, Dave Grohl, Carole King, Clyde McPhatter, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Johnny Carter, Gregg Rolie and Sammy Strain.
