Watch Scotty Pippen Jr. fail to attempt final shot in Vanderbilt basketball's close loss to South Carolina
Scotty Pippen Jr. had 15 second-half points as Vanderbilt basketball tried to mount a comeback against South Carolina on Saturday at Memorial Gym.
But it's his curious final decision that will be the lasting memory of the Commodores' 72-70 home loss.
After a pair of timeouts to set up a play, Pippen inbounded the ball with 6.3 seconds left, then took the ball back to move into the frontcourt. Pippen, Vandy's leading scorer this season, drove the ball to the right side of the lane, but decided to pass out with tenths of a second remaining on the clock. The pass went awry as the clock ran out.
It appeared Pippen had an angle (and the time) to at least get off a makeable shot or at least draw a foul in a game that had 48 of them. (Pippen was 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the second half, and both teams were in the double bonus.)

Vandy coach Jerry Stackhouse said after the game that the play was for Pippen to distribute the ball out for a 3-point look but "it probably wasn't the right call."
Jerry Stackhouse said the intent of the final play was actually to have Scotty Pippen Jr. pass the ball to Trey Thomas for a 3, but they "jammed" Pippen. Stackhouse said, "it probably wasn't the right call"
