Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will lead Team Canada in two FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifying games over the next week.

The Canadians enter the fourth window of World Cup qualifying with a perfect 6-0 record. Canada, No. 18 in the FIBA rankings, is well on pace to qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, which will tip-off next summer in host countries Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Gilgeous-Alexander is Canada’s top player on a team that features plenty of NBA talent including RJ Barrett, Dillon Brooks, Kelly Olynyk, Dwight Powell, Oshae Brissett, Khem Birch and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who is SGA’s cousin.

Thunder guard Lu Dort, from Montreal, is in training camp with Team Canada but will not play in the qualifying games. Dort underwent shoulder surgery in March. He’s expected to be at full health when NBA training camp starts next month.

Gilgeous-Alexander isn’t the only Thunder player who will be representing his national team this week in the fourth window of World Cup qualifying. Thunder guards Theo Maledon (France) and Vit Krejci (Czech Republic) are also expected to play.

In fact, France and the Czech Republic will face off at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Paris.

All FIBA World Cup qualifying games can be streamed, with a subscription, on Courtside 1891.
