  • Injury report: PROBABLE — offensive linemen Cason Henry, Vershon Lee, Tree Babalade and Trovon Baugh; wide receiver Ahmarean Brown. QUESTIONABLE — tight end Trey Knox. OUT — offensive lineman Trai Jones.

  • DQ is DQ’ed from first half: Safety DQ Smith was ejected from the second half of South Carolina’s loss to Texas A&M for targeting. USC filed an appeal with the NCAA to get the call overturned so Smith would be eligible for the entirety of the JSU game. But the NCAA upheld the ruling, so Smith will have to miss the first half of the game this weekend.

  • The Gamecock Bowl: South Carolina’s game versus Jacksonville State this weekend marks the first college football game between two schools with “Gamecocks” as their nicknames. Jacksonville State is in its first season as an FBS team, having officially become a member of Conference USA on July 1.

  • Must win out: The contest against Jacksonville State marks the first of four home games on South Carolina’s schedule to wrap up the 2023 season. If USC doesn’t win all four of those games, the Gamecocks will be ineligible for a bowl game this year.
