Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the beloved animated series that first aired in 2008, is coming back for one last season, and the first episode lands on Disney+ on Friday, February 21. Netflix briefly revived the show in 2014, but fans continued to campaign for a proper conclusion to the story of the Jedi Order’s final hours.

This new seventh and last season will run for 12 episodes and, according to supervising director Dave Filoni, lead directly into the events of George Lucas’s 2005 opus, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Disney+ lets you watch it from the comfort of your living room or on your favorite mobile device.

Season seven will feature the eagerly awaited “Siege of Mandalore” story arc as well as a showdown between Ahsoka Tano and Palpatine’s former Sith apprentice, Maul.

“It’s that personal journey,” Filoni told Entertainment Weekly recently. “With Ahsoka, she’s been the student Jedi the whole time, and she’s finally being challenged by what she will do with her knowledge and her training and her abilities when faced with the ultimate test.”

What is The Clone Wars about?

In a now-deleted tweet, the Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo once suggested that anyone hoping to understand the Star Wars universe the way its creator, George Lucas, did should watch The Clone Wars. As of this writing, it comprises six seasons, 121 episodes, and more than 44 hours of content born from Lucas’s wild imagination. Its seventh and final season, beginning February 21, contains 12 all-new episodes.

This series explores the inner lives of the clone troopers made to serve in Sidious’s cruel war, introduces a huge slate of memorable new characters, brings back beloved favorites like Maul and Boba Fett, and fleshes out the brotherly bond shared by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Its scope is unmatched in the Star Wars mythos, and, for many fans, it’s where their love of the franchise began.

The Clone Wars deals with darker themes than the comparable Star Wars Rebels—but it’s as essential, arguably, as any of the live-action movies.

The show features the voice-over talents of Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, Ashley Eckstein, Catherine Taber, Nika Futterman, Dee Bradley Baker, Tom Kane, Matthew Wood, Ian Abercrombie, Tim Curry, Clancy Brown, Corey Burton, Jim Cummings, Anthony Daniels, Anna Graves, Phil LaMarr, Daniel Logan, Meredith Salenger, and Sam Witwer.
