  • Ted Lasso stars Jason Sudeikis as the titular Ted Lasso, an American football coach who finds himself with a new job: coaching soccer for the (fictional) English Premier League team, AFC Richmond.

  • The show is not only funny, but will genuinely make you feel good.

  • Season 2 of Ted Lasso starts streaming on Apple TV+ on July 23, 2021.

We all needed some good vibes in 2020, because there sure weren't many of them to go around. Thankfully, 2020 also marked the premiere of Ted Lasso, a comedy series starring Jason Sudeikis which essentially served as a living, physical, 10-episode-long good vibe. It was one of the best new shows of the year, and a genuinely great watch. Now, the show is back for another round, with the brand new Season 2 debuting on July 23—and its not sneaking up on anyone this time.

Earlier this month Ted Lasso was nominated for an impressive 20 Emmys, including Best Comedy Series, Best Lead Actor in a Comedy for Sudeikis, and six more acting nominations for members of the show's cast. With Season 2, the show looks to continue its running plot and continue to build the characters fans of the show have just started to get to know (and love) in Season 1.

Ted Lasso is all about the titular coach (played by Sudeikis) moving to the United Kingdom to coach an English Premier League team called AFC Richmond. The hook: he is a football coach, but not the kind that plays in the Premier League. No, Lasso is an American football coach, coming across the pond for a new job after coaching football at Wichita State. He knows nothing about this football.

The show turns out to be even more than just its wacky premise. Where fellow great shows like Seinfeld or It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia get laughs on the awfulness of their main characters, Ted Lasso goes the other way. The characters, led by Sudeikis' relentlessly positive and good-natured Ted, are generally good people, doing good things, and leaving a good taste in our mouths when each episode's end credits roll. It's not mushy gushy junk—there are still many genuine laughs throughout the series—but it's just the kind of show to make you feel nice when the rest of the world, well, you know how it's been. And we can happily report that those feel-good vibes continue well into Season 2's run.

OK, so how can I actually watch Ted Lasso?

Ted Lasso is an Apple TV+ original, meaning you can only watch the show on the Apple TV+ platform. If you don't subscribe already, there's good news: if you sign up, there's a 7-day free trial. After that, Apple TV+ is only $4.99 a month, so you're not exactly breaking the bank.

If you wind up liking Ted Lasso, it's worth noting that Apple TV+ also has another comedy series that we highly recommend in Mythic Quest, which was created by and stars Always Sunny creator Rob McElhenney. Worth noting!

Are there more episodes coming?

Good news: yes. Not only was Ted Lasso renewed for this new Season 2 , now finally debuting, but the show has been such a success that Apple TV+ preemptively ordered Season 3 back in October 2020. We can happily expect more of our favorite coach next summer.
