What to Watch Tonight: The Series Finale of Parenthood and the Winter Premieres of Scandal, Grey's, and How to Get Away With Murder

What to watch on Thursday, January 29...

7pm, Cartoon Network
Adventure Time
"Gold Stars" sends Sweet P to his first day of school, where he quickly gets into a sticky wicket. Then in "Astral Plane," Finn's off on a metaphysical journey to learn about creativity.

WINTER PREMIERE, 8pm, ABC
Grey's Anatomy
"Where Do We Go From Here?" finds Meredith distracting herself with work as Derek prepares to move to D.C. Elsewhere, Jackson and April field bad news while Arizona and Amelia consider the best way to approach Dr. Herman.

8pm, CBS
The Big Bang Theory
Afraid that he's grown too cosseted to become a truly revolutionary scientist, Sheldon asks his friends to give him a harder time in "The Anxiety Optimization." If you were to bet that this plan proves more annoying to the rest of the gang than to Sheldon, I would not bet against you.

8pm, The CW
The Vampire Diaries
In "Prayer for the Dying," Liv and Luke hope their dad will let Jo and Kai take their place in the great merging. In other doomed ambitions, Caroline's quest to cure her mom hits a setback, and Damon's plan to Damon things up goes right off the rails.

8:30pm, CBS
Mom
A grieving Bonnie behaves erratically in "Kitty Litter and a Class A Felony," leaving Christy to clean up the resulting mess.

WINTER PREMIERE, 9pm, ABC
Scandal
"Run" picks up where the fall finale left off, but with an Olivia's-eye view of the whole ruckus. Who has abducted our hero? Where have they taken her? Will they stop for tacos on the way, because kidnapping/getting kidnapped is hungry work? Should I have some tacos myself, now that I've brought them up? These questions and more may be answered.

9pm, The CW
Reign
Mary has a surprising reaction to learning the truth from Greer in "Banished," while Francis and Condé's rivalry approaches "Zoolander vs. Hansel at the walk-off" levels. Around the court, Diane squares off with Catherine and Claude digs into the twins' deaths.

9pm, Fox
Backstrom
In "Bella," the S.C.U. assists an arson investigator (Angelique Cabral) with a case that may involve attempted murder. Off the beat, Backstrom faces childhood demons while Valentine helps Niedermayer retrieve pilfered evidence.

SERIES FINALE, 10pm, NBC
Parenthood
The nation's Crying Alert soars to blazing Red as "May God Bless and Keep You Always" concludes six seasons of Bravermania. Sarah gathers the whole family in anticipation of her big day, Hank seeks the support of both Zeek and Drew, Amber acclimates to motherhood, Julia and Joel confront a life-changing decision, Crosby and Adam come to a conclusion about the Luncheonette, Max enters the workforce, and Kristina lays out a roadmap for the future.

SERIES PREMIERE, 10pm, Pivot
Fortitude
Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, and Christopher Eccleston lead the cast of Pivot's first original drama, a co-production with British network Sky. It follows a detective (Tucci) investigating a grisly murder in a previously placid Arctic town, so I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna be referring to this show as Fjordchurch.

WINTER PREMIERE, 10pm, ABC
How to Get Away With Murder
"Hello Raskolnikov" picks up the day after Sam's slaying, with Annalise and the Annalisettes on the hunt for her missing husband. But could the arrival of a surprise visitor throw sand in the search party's gears?

10pm, CBS
Elementary
Sherlock and Joan step up their efforts to help Kitty now that she's learned the true identity of her attacker. Meanwhile, "The One That Got Away" traces the beginning of Sherlock and Kitty's relationship.

10pm, FX
Archer
"Edie's Wedding" finds Pam attending her her sister's (Allison Tolman) nuptials, with Archer in tow. Because what could possibly go wrong when you bring Archer someplace with an open bar?

10pm, Sundance
Babylon
As the search for the Thameside bomber gears up, Liz shoulders the consequences of her relationship with the commissioner.

10pm, IFC
