Watch out for these upcoming road construction projects in Monroe County
Following are upcoming road construction projects for the week of Oct. 9 in Monroe County. All work is weather permitting:
City of Monroe
St. Mary's Gardens subdivision storm sewer and roadway project: This week, E.R. Zeiler Excavating of Temperance will continue removal and grading work for new pavement on Roessler Street and John L Drive. Subcontractor Oglesby Construction plans to place new mainline pavement on the east side of John L Drive.
East First Street water main/paving from Washington to Macomb: Subcontractor GM & Sons of Whitmore Lake plans to complete remaining sidewalk replacement, and the roadway will remain closed to vehicular traffic.
Riverview Avenue pavement repairs at Arborwood South Elementary: Salenbien Trucking & Excavating and GM & Sons will replace a short section of pavement on Riverview Avenue in front of Arborwood South School next week, which will require the east half of the roadway to be closed for approximately one week.
"These repairs are necessary due to settling from poor underlying stone that was not able to be identified during last year’s resurfacing project," Patrick Lewis, director of engineering and public services, said.
Monroe County
Bedford Township: Smith Road between Secor Road and Douglas Road. The tile crew will be installing a cross tile beginning this week. The road will be closed to through traffic. Because of low traffic volume, there will be no posted detour.
Berlin Township: U.S. Turnpike between Labo Road and Sigler Road. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the U.S. Turnpike bridge over Mouilee Creek. One-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained with traffic regulators when the work is underway.
Erie Township: Erie Road railroad tracks between South Dixie and I-75. Norfolk Southern Railroad is tentatively scheduled to close the railroad track crossing this week for track maintenance. The posted detour is South Dixie Highway to Luna Pier to I-75. Allow extra time when traveling in this area.
Erie Township: Sterns Road railroad tracks between Suder Road and South Dixie Highway. Norfolk Southern Railroad is tentatively scheduled to close the track crossing this week for track maintenance. The posted detour to Suder Road to South Dixie Highway. Allow extra time when traveling in this area.
Erie Township: Suder Road railroad tracks between Dean Road and Substation Road. Norfolk Southern Railroad is tentatively scheduled to close the railroad track crossing this week for track maintenance. The posted detour is Dean Road to South Dixie Highway. Allow extra time when traveling in this area.
Erie Township: Victory Road railroad tracks between Luna Pier Road and Cousino Road. Norfolk Southern Railroad is tentatively scheduled to close the railroad track crossing this week for track maintenance. The posted detour is Luna Pier to South Dixie Highway to Cousino Road. All exra time when traveling in this area.
Exeter Township: Stone Road between Ida Maybee Road and Bluebush Road. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the Stone Road bridge over Sandy Creek. One-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained with traffic regulators when the work is underway.
Frenchtown Township: Vivian Road between Cole Road and Hurd Road. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the Vivian Road bridge over Sandy Creek. One-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained with traffic regulators when the work is underway.
Ida and LaSalle townships: Minx Road between Todd Road and Ida Center Road is scheduled to be closed to through traffic next week for replacement of a culvert crossing at South Branch of Otter Creek Drain by the Monroe County Drain Commission. A detour route will not be posted because of low traffic volume and the short duration of the closure.
LaSalle Township: Kelly Road railroad tracks between South Dixie Highway and Cousino Road. Norfolk Southern Railroad is tentatively scheduled to close the railroad track crossing this week. The posted detour to use is South Dixie Highway to Cousino Road. Allow extra time when travelling in this area.
LaSalle Township: South Otter Creek Road, I-75 to North Lakeshore Drive/Beach Street: Gerken Paving is milling the roads in advance of resurfacing. Traffic regulators will maintain one-lane, two-way traffic around the moving operation. Access for bussing and local residents will be maintained.
London Township: Oakville Waltz Road between Palmer Road and Rawsonville Road. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the Oakville Waltz Road bridges over Stony Creek and the Stony Creek overflow. One-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained with traffic regulators when the work is underway.

Monroe Township: LaPlaisance Road between Hull Road and Jones Avenue. Fahrner Asphalt Sealers is scheduled to apply an epoxy overlay on the LaPlaisance Road bridge over Plum Creek. One-lane, two-way traffic will be maintained with traffic regulators when the work is underway.
Whiteford Township: Piehl Road between Summerfield Road and Whiteford Road. The tile crew will install a new cross tile beginning this week. The road will be closed to through traffic. Because of low traffic volume, there will be no posted detour.
