WATCH: Urban Stampede 'dark roasts' coffee beans with a flamethrower

Jan. 19—GRAND FORKS — It's been one year since downtown coffee shop Urban Stampede staff

began its attempt to "trade up"

its way to a new coffee grinder. Starting with an Urban Stampede coffee mug, staff has traded items of increasing value, including a piece of art from a local artist, a bottle of champagne, a fox fur collar and a 1999 Saab 9-3 Convertible.

The latest trade? A go-kart for a XM42-X flamethrower.

In a Thursday, Jan. 18, Instagram post, Urban Stampede co-owner Justin Auch demonstrated the cafe's latest acquisition on a batch of Sparky's Craft Coffee Roasting coffee beans. Watch the flamethrower "dark roast" the coffee below:

It was just for fun — and wasn't for beans that will be consumed by customers.

Because he wasn't comfortable trading such a dangerous item to just anyone, Auch said he made a deal to trade the flamethrower with someone he trusted — his mom.

Urban Stampede will announce what item they traded for the flamethrower at a later date.

Auch told the Herald in February 2023 that their original goal was to trade up to a Fiorenzato coffee grinder, which retails at $3,150, but that goal could shift to something like a new coffee roaster or a food truck for the coffee shop to take to events.
