The U.S. Open gets underway this week at The Country Club in Brookline, as golf’s third major of the year takes place under the cloud of the LIV Golf series fallout.

The inaugural event of the Saudi-backed breakaway last week has split the game and has been the big talking point ahead of the tournament in Massachusetts.

The U.S. Open will put breakaway players such as Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, who have been banned from the PGA Tour, up against critics in Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.

Tiger Woods will be missing from the field after withdrawing from the PGA Championship last month, but the 15-time major champion is still hopeful of making the field at the Open Championship at St Andrews next month.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the tournament.
