EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – New UTEP football head coach Scotty Walden has wasted no time showing he is all about UTEP since his arrival last December.

When it comes to football, Walden and his coaching staff had about two months to overhaul UTEP’s roster in recruiting. On National Signing Day, on Feb. 7, Walden announced the Miners full, 47-player 2024 signing class, his first as UTEP’s new head coach. According to Rivals and 24/7 Sports, the recruiting class is the best in the history of the Miners football program.

While at the same time building a new foundation for the UTEP football program on the field, Walden has been putting in the work off the field as well. During the UTEP men’s basketball game against LA Tech on Thursday night, Walden showed up to the game in full body paint and hyped up the crowd at the Don Haskins Center. Walden went from jumping on the media table to going to the student section and took on the role of a mega Miners’ basketball fan.

This is not the first time Walden has appeared at a UTEP sporting event, that isn’t football, and went all out in showing in support.

The same day Walden was officially introduced as the 27th head football coach in UTEP history, he showed up to UTEP volleyball’s NIVC quarterfinals match against Clemson and hyped out a sold-out Memorial Gym on Dec. 6.

We knew Walden was bringing a lot of energy to the Sun City once he was hired and so far he is living up to the hype.

The UTEP football team begins spring practices on Mar. 18, according to a UTEP spokesperson.
