Watch: Wallaby leads Arizona sheriff's deputies on a chase

Aug. 10 (UPI) -- An Arizona sheriff's office shared video of an unusual chase involving deputies, animal sanctuary personnel and a high-jumping wallaby.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a neighborhood in Waddell where a wallaby named Wally was seen wandering loose after a windstorm damaged a gate in his enclosure.

"I've got a little kangaroo, maybe about two and a half feet tall, going to be underneath the tree in the back corner," a deputy says in video of the pursuit.

Deputies requested help with the chase and personnel from the nonprofit Farm Angels Sanctuary arrived to assist.

The video depicts Wally showing off his high jumping skills before being wrangled into a cage.

The Farm Angels Sanctuary, located in Surprise, said Wally's owner contacted the group and agreed that Wally and the marsupial's brother, Joey, should be moved to the sanctuary permanently.

Wallabies are legal to own in Arizona, but sanctuary officials stressed the wild animals do not make good pets.
