BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (WJW) — The dramatic ending to Friday nights’ basketball game between the Rocky River Pirates and the Bay Village Rockets has now solidified a thrilling story in the history of that rivalry.

Rocky River was down by seven points with one minute left in the game, but mounted a come back to make the score 44 to 44.

With just 2.2 seconds left in the game freshman Danny Berg took a shot from well beyond half-court and made the basket as time expired giving the Pirates a thrilling last second 47 to 44 win as their fans poured onto the court to celebrate and congratulate the players.

Rocky River Head Basketball Coach Michael Murray was asked by Fox 8 News to describe the frantic ending of the game, played at Bay Village High School, when his team won in the final seconds.

“Danny Berg hit a 3-pointer and we called a timeout,” Murray said. “We (Rocky River) were able to get turnovers and Jaden Charney hit a 3-pointer to tie the score. On the next play, we stole the ball and called another timeout.

Murray then described what happened when his Pirates inbounded the ball and Danny Berg took the last second shot.

“Danny popped back to the ball and made an unbelievable shot. Danny plays with a ton of confidence for a freshman and works really hard on his game. Amazing ending,” Murray said.
