WATCH: Women attacked taking photo of hit-and-run driver

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are looking for a driver who was caught on camera attacking a 71-year-old woman and her daughter after they tried to stop him from leaving the scene of a crash on their Parkway Village street.

Investigators said the mother was knocked unconscious by the man Thursday morning after he drove his Mercedes SUV into the front of a neighbor’s house in the 5100 block of Teal Avenue.

Police said the women were trying to get pictures of the suspect’s tag number when he got out of his vehicle and punched both of them repeatedly in the face. They said the man also took the daughter’s phone when she dropped it.

Another neighbor’s camera captured the whole incident. The neighbor wasn’t home when it happened but said he was appalled when he saw the video.

“I thought about my mama and my sister and said, ‘Boy, if you put your hand on them while I was around, you would really have gotten beaten,'” said the neighbor who did not want to be identified.

The footage also showed a black car pulling up after the crash. Several males are seen jumping out of the vehicle and inspecting the damage. They appeared to run back to the car when they saw the women come outside.

Both victims were treated at the scene, and the 71-year-old was later hospitalized. A relative at the home Friday said she is still in the hospital.

“I saw them after the incident. I went over and talked to them and made sure they were all right,” said the neighbor. “They had knots on their heads. Both of them.”

Police were able to get a picture of the suspect and his blue Mercedes. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault.
